Anaesthesia Fees - Our Fees

Anaesthetic Fees

Medway Anaesthetic Group is a partnership that sets its own fees for anaesthetic services. We adhere to the ‘Anaesthetic practice in the independent sector 2018’ guidelines published by the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland.

Our fees are based on several factors, including the nature and complexity of the procedure, the anticipated duration of anaesthesia, the level of post-operative care required, and relevant patient-specific considerations (for example, medical history, co-morbidities, or additional monitoring requirements).

We seek to ensure that our charges are fair and competitive in comparison with other private anaesthetic service providers in the region.

Patients with Private Medical Insurance

Many private medical insurers publish a ‘fee schedule’, which sets out the level of reimbursement available to policyholders for particular procedure codes. The insurer does not set the anaesthetic fee.

Most private medical insurers cover our fees; however, you should confirm your level of cover in advance. Cover can vary between insurers and between different policies offered by the same insurer. If your insurer does not reimburse the full fee, you may be asked to pay the difference (a ‘shortfall’).

For some insurers, if you provide the hospital with your policy details and have obtained pre-authorisation for your treatment, we can usually invoice the insurer directly for anaesthetic fees. Depending on your policy terms (including any excess), the insurer may reimburse the invoice in full or may ask that you contribute towards the fee. Any contribution requested by the insurer is typically due to the level of cover provided by your policy.

Please note that, even if you have private medical insurance, you remain responsible for payment of our fees, as our contract for services is with you rather than your insurer. If we are unable to obtain settlement from your insurer, our medical billing company, will contact you to arrange payment.

If you require further information regarding our fees, please contact our Practice Manager by email at [email protected] or by telephone on 01622 538123.
